Nurse Student Tech Summer Shadow Program

There is an opportunity for nursing students to use their developing skills and learn more about day-to-day duties at one of Willis Knighton’s acute care hospitals.

The program is open to nursing students who have completed first level clinicals, hold BLS certification or CNA certification and desire to shadow a Willis Knighton nurse in a unit of interest during the summer.

Be part of our 12-week summer program that includes six weeks in a specialty care area and six weeks in a medical-surgical, telemetry or post-operative unit.

NST Application, Interview & Onboarding Process

  1. The application process begins MARCH 1.
    • Go to Careers, Nursing Jobs and complete an application for the Nurse Tech position.
  2. Interviews take place in APRIL. This is where you select which departments you will want to shadow.
    • Bring a copy of your COVID Card or Exemption Paperwork
    • Bring us a printed copy of your American Heart Association BLS CPR Card
    • If eligible for hire, you will move forward to complete the WK employee hiring paperwork.
  3. Onboarding.
    • The successful completion of your first clinical semester (RN program) or CNA certification (LPN program) is verified with your school.
    • If hired, you will receive a call from Human Resources with directions for scheduling a physical and drug screen through our Work Kare.
  4. Orientation in MAY.
    • A New Employee Orientation will be held the Monday and Tuesday of your first work week.  This general orientation will be held at the WK Innovation Center (2105 Airline Dr in Bossier City, La) Please note that a full day (7:30am – 4:00pm) will be scheduled and is mandatory for all Nurse Student Techs.
    • You will then report to your assigned campus for a unit-specific orientation.
  5. Graduation from the NST program in AUGUST.
    • There will be a reception to celebrate the completion of the program. You will receive a certificate and a small gift at the end of the summer program.
