Overview
This injection numbs part of your hand. It's a type of injection we also call a "wrist block." We use it to get you ready for a procedure on your hand or fingers.
Preparation
To begin, your arm is extended, and we clean the skin where the injection will be done.
Numbing the Nerve
Now, we carefully guide a needle to the radial nerve in your wrist. This nerve and its branches travel from your arm to your thumb and first three fingers. We inject anesthetic to bathe this nerve. This causes numbness that will last for several hours.
Aftercare
After the anesthetic wears off, you may need to take medicine to control pain from your procedure. Follow your doctor's care plan.
