Overview

This lets your surgeon examine and treat problems of organs in your pelvic area. It's done with a viewing device called a "laparoscope."

Preparation

To begin, you are anesthetized. Most patients are put to sleep. One or more small openings are made in the skin of your belly. These are for the laparoscope and other small instruments.

Procedure

Now, the surgeon examines your reproductive system. If you have a cyst, tumor, blockage, infection or some other issue, the surgeon can see it. Some problems can be treated during the procedure. Or, you may need to have another surgery later.

End of Procedure

When the laparoscopy is done, the openings in your skin are closed. You're watched in a recovery room. Follow your surgeon's tips for a safe recovery.
