Overview
This surgery repairs a weak spot in your abdominal wall. It prevents organs and tissues from bulging out uncomfortably. That's a condition we call a "hernia."
Preparation
To begin, you lie on a surgical table. You're given medicine that relaxes you or puts you to sleep. The surgeon makes an incision in your skin to reach the hernia.
Repair
The surgeon pushes any bulging tissues back into your abdomen. Then, your abdominal wall is repaired with sutures. Your surgeon may also sew a mesh patch over the hernia to make it stronger.
End of Procedure
When the surgery is done, the incision is closed and bandaged. You're watched in a recovery room for a brief time. Follow your surgeon's plan for a safe recovery.
