LASIK Eye Surgery (CustomVue Laser System)
Overview
This improves vision by reshaping your eye's cornea. That's the clear outer layer at the front of your eye. The CustomVue method uses a special computer-controlled laser system. It ensures the reshaping is customized specifically for your eye.
Eye scan
Before your surgery, your eye doctor carefully examines your eye. Then, you have an eye scan. During the scan, the shape of your cornea is carefully measured. The scanner makes a detailed map of your cornea. It shows any problems that are affecting your vision.
Preparation
When it's time for your surgery, you're given medicine to help you relax. Drops numb your eye. Your eyelids are held open to keep you from blinking. A suction ring is placed on your eye. Then, the doctor carefully opens a small flap of tissue in the front of your eye. That exposes the part of your cornea that will be reshaped.
Reshaping
The doctor reshapes your cornea with a computer-controlled laser. The computer uses the data from your eye scan to guide the laser. The laser corrects the flaws in your cornea. When the reshaping is finished, the flap is folded back over the front of your eye. It will heal naturally.
After the procedure
After the procedure, your eye may be itchy and watery. It may burn. Your vision may be blurry. You'll use medicated eyedrops as it heals. You'll have followup appointments to check your vision. Follow your doctor's care plan.
