Hip Joint Injection
Overview
This is an injection of medicine that goes into your hip joint. We use it to treat pain and inflammation. We can also use it to find the source of your pain.
Preparation
To begin, we may give you medicine to help you relax. We numb the skin and tissue of your hip. Now, we carefully guide a needle into your joint. We may use ultrasound to guide the needle. Or, we may use a video x-ray device. If so, we may inject contrast dye through the needle so we can see the joint better.
Injection
Now, we inject the medicine. It bathes the painful joint. If the pain you feel comes from your joint, the medicine may relieve it. And if your joint is inflamed, the medicine will help it heal.
End of procedure
After your injection, follow your doctor's instructions. You may not feel pain relief right away. You may need to come back for more injections to get the full benefit of the medicine. For more info, talk to your doctor.
