Reduce Your Risk for CMV
CMV (cytomegalovirus) is a common virus . You can catch it if you are around young children. Unfortunately, CMV can be passed to your baby. Because CMV is the most common nongenetic reason children are born deaf or hard of hearing, take these measures to reduce your risk of passing CMV to your unborn baby.
- Don't share utensils with other children
- Avoid kissing children on the mouth
- Wash your hands after changing diapers and wiping noses
- Keep other kids’ toys clean
To learn if a baby is born with hearing issues, Willis-Knighton performs CMV testing on babies born at WK hospitals.
