Neeraj Singh, MD, medical director of kidney and pancreas transplantation at Willis-Knighton’s John C. McDonald Regional Transplant Center, will be published in the November transplantation issue of “Nephrology Self-Assessment Program (NephSAP).”  The national journal is a learning vehicle for clinical nephrologists to renew and refresh their clinical knowledge, diagnostic and therapeutic skills.

“Access to Kidney Transplantation” is the title of the article that highlights the problem of inequity in access to kidney transplantation, especially in the southeastern United States.

“The John C. McDonald Regional Transplant Center serves the needs of a mostly economically deprived minority population,” Dr. Singh says. “These patients are particularly disadvantaged for several social and economic reasons and have poor access to healthcare and transplantation. I wanted to emphasize the problems faced by our patients.”

Dr. Singh, lead author, collaborated with Millie Samaniego, MD, director of kidney and pancreas transplantation at Henry Ford Transplant Institute in Detroit, to develop the article. He is continuing to identify other relevant issues for journals and is currently exploring the roles and responsibilities of medical directors of kidney and pancreas transplantation in the United States.
