Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery

Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery is a fairly standard procedure for people with blocked arteries. Thanks to advanced robotic technology, Willis-Knighton surgeons began offering minimally-invasive CABG in 2010. Benefits are:

  • Significantly smaller incisions and scars
  • Reduced chance of infection
  • Shorter hospital stay and quicker recovery
  • No splitting of the breastbone (cracking chest)
  • Less pain
  • Elimination of heart/lung machine during surgery (in many cases)
  • Minimized need for blood transfusion
