Several offer specific programs to support weight loss and help people learn lifestyle and dietary habits as they work to attain a healthy weight level, prevent diabetes or better learn how to keep their diabetes under control. 

Metabolic Disease & Obesity Clinic – This program was developed by Dr. Maurie Patterson following graduate training at the Joslin Diabetes Center. Joslin is the world’s largest diabetes research center, which is associated with Harvard Medical School. Working with Dr. Patterson is a dietitian from Willis Knighton Diabetes & Nutrition. It is available not only for anyone who has been diagnosed with diabetes or prediabetes but also for those who have been who struggle with obesity and hypertension. It is recommended for someone who has a history of blood pressure greater than 130/80, HgbA1c greater than 5.5 or a fasting glucose greater than 100, and body mass index (BMI) greater than 30. Patients remain under the care of their primary physician during and following completion of the program. It is located at WK Internal Medicine Portico Center.

Wonder Kids – This program was developed by Doctors Margaret Crittell and Monica Haynes to support children struggling with obesity. Working with them are psychologist Arien Ward, PsyD, and a dietitian from Willis Knighton Diabetes & Nutrition. It is available for children ages 2 to 18 with a body mass index (BMI) higher or equal to the 95th percentile for the standard age/growth chart. This program requires a referral from the child’s primary provider, who will continue to provide general pediatric care for the child. The program is located at the Children’s Health Specialists clinic, 2032 Elizabeth Avenue in Shreveport.
