Dr. Norman A. Zaffater, Jr. was born in in Shreveport, Louisiana and is the youngest and only son of Norman, Sr. and Carol Zaffater. After graduating from Loyola High School, Dr. Zaffater attended LSU Baton Rouge where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology in 1989. Dr. Zaffater went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine degree from LSU Medical Center at New Orleans in 1993. Returning to Shreveport, Dr. Zaffater completed his ophthalmology residency at LSU Medical Center in 1997.
Dr. Zaffater has performed over eight thousand eye surgeries since he began practicing. He is highly experienced in the latest techniques of laser vision correction, including all laser (no-blade) custom LASIK. He is certified on multiple laser systems and trained to correct all forms of refractive errors, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and reading vision. He has expertise in the area of no-stitch, no-shot, no-patch cataract removal with the use of various lens implants, including implants that correct distance and reading vision (multifocal lens implants). Dr. Zaffater is one of the first surgeons in Louisiana to be certified on the LenSx laser for cataract surgery. He is trained in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma, diabetic eye conditions, and certain retinal abnormalities. He offers comprehensive family eye care including exams for children. In addition, Dr. Zaffater has been trained to perform Botox and Juvederm procedures for the reduction of facial lines and plastic surgery procedures for eyelid abnormalities.
