Dr. Futrell is a native of Arkansas who has lived in Shreveport for more than 30 years. After graduation from the University of Arkansas with a B.S. in Microbiology, she received her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. As a member of the faculty there, Dr. Futrell published numerous articles on brown recluse spider venom and immunoelectron microscopy. Dr. Futrell graduated from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed her dermatology residency at Tulane University in New Orleans.

She is a board certified dermatologist by the American Board of Dermatology with 20+ years experience in adult and pediatric dermatology, dermatologic and laser surgery, and cosmetic dermatology. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.
