Dr. Luka came to the United States in 1985 and was granted political asylum following persecution in his native country, Poland, for his anti-communist actions. Dr. Luka is a U.S. military veteran, serving for 14 years in both the Army and the Air Force. He is a veteran of the war in Iraq. He earned his degree in biology from Warsaw University and pursued a doctor of optometry degree, graduating from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn., in 1988. Dr. Luka has called Shreveport his home since 2003.
With a strong background in optometry, Dr. Luka joined the Pierremont Eye Institute in 2007, where he performs comprehensive eye examinations, including prescriptions and fittings for glasses and contact lenses. He provides similar services for patients at WK Eye Institute South on the Willis-Knighton South campus.
Dr. Luka has been married to his wife, Teresa, for 28 years. They have two children. Paulina, their oldest, is serving as an officer in the U.S. Army. Adam, the youngest, is a student at LSU School of Medicine.
