A native of Shreveport, Dr. Reeves graduated from Captain Shreve High School and from LSU in Baton Rouge with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry. He earned his medical degree at LSU Medical School in New Orleans. During his residency he trained at Charity Hospital of New Orleans, Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Harvard Children’s Hospital/Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Following that he moved to Switzerland to work with the premier cerebrovascular and brain tumor neurosurgeon in the world.
During his medical training, Dr. Reeves was directly influenced by internationally-respected neurosurgeons who helped form his neurosurgical ethics and philosophy. These include:
- Dr. David G. Kline, Boyd Professor of Neurosurgery, with special interest in peripheral nerve surgery. Dr. Kline recruited Dr. Reeves as a student.
- Dr. Edward Benzel at LSU School of Medicine Shreveport, who has influenced generations of spine surgeons.
- Doctors John Shilleto and Michael Scott, Harvard’s Children's Hospital/ Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
- Dr. M. Gazi Yasargil, cerebrovascular and brain tumor specialists, considered one of the two most influential neurosurgeons of the 20th century.
After completing his training, Dr. Reeves moved to Wichita Falls, TX, at the time a neurosurgically-underserved area of the state. He practiced there for most of his career, only returning to Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina for 18 months. He is pleased to return to his hometown to share his expertise.
As a result of his broad training and experience, Dr. Reeves considers himself to be a careful and prudent physician and surgeon, applying his neurosurgical art when necessary, declining it when appropriate, or referring to other colleagues when the case demands.
On a personal level, Dr. Reeves is married to Jamie Woodruff Reeves, who is a very fine neurosurgical nurse and coordinator. Many patients will meet her at the office or hospital. Dr. Reeves has two wonderful daughters, Ashley, a medical student in LSUHSC New Orleans, and Hannah is a business major at LSU Baton Rouge. Dr. Reeves enjoys the usual southern pastimes of fishing, golfing, fitness exercise, cooking and entertaining, and reading. And of course, he enjoys his dogs.
