Dr. Donald Sorrells, Jr., a Red River Parish native, completed his undergraduate education at Louisiana State University in Shreveport and received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. During his General Surgery residency training, he did a year of research at the prestigious Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh followed by a second year of molecular biology research with Dr. Benjamin Li at LSUHSC – Shreveport. Upon completing his surgical residency, Dr. Sorrells served as a Major in the Air Force and was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. He did one tour in Kuwait in support of Operation Desert Freedom. Upon completion of his military service, he received a Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, R.I., also serving as a surgical instructor at Brown University. Dr. Sorrells returned home to Shreveport to practice Pediatric Surgery in 2005.
