Dr. April Callaway Palmer is a lifelong resident of Shreveport, Louisiana. She believes that growing up in this community gives her an advantage when it comes to understanding the concerns of the people in and around her hometown.
Dr. Palmer attended public schools in Caddo Parish and is a graduate of Caddo Magnet High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Centenary College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She then completed her medical school training at LSUHSC-Shreveport, graduating in 2003. During medical school Dr. Palmer was named a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, which recognizes the top medical students each year. She chose to pursue Family Medicine because she valued the relationships with her patients and enjoyed taking care of a wide variety of medical conditions and ages of patients. She began her Family Medicine training with an internship at the University of Texas Health Center in Tyler. After that year she decided to come back home to Shreveport. She finished her residency training in the Family Medicine Residency at LSUHSC-Shreveport in 2006. She served as Chief Resident during her final year of residency. Dr. Palmer is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with her first certification in 2006 and recertification in 2016.
Dr. Palmer has had a successful and growing private practice in Shreveport since 2006. She is grateful and humbled that over the years many people in the community have entrusted her with their healthcare. In 2013, Kristen Bass, PA-C, joined Dr. Palmer’s practice. Kristen brought a wealth of experience from the hospital and other healthcare settings and instantly became a valuable partner, helping to care for the growing number of patients each day. In 2016, Dr. Palmer and Ms. Bass were excited to move their practice to WK Pierremont Health Center and they established Family Medicine Partners at Pierremont.
In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Palmer is a very proud mom of two children who attend public schools in Caddo Parish. She believes being a mom is her highest calling in life and loves spending time with her son and daughter and participating in their many activities. She and her children love animals and have five pets at home. She enjoys cooking, playing the piano and travelling anytime she can.
