Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)

What is a Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgery done on the nose. It is done to reshape the nose.

Why is a Rhinoplasty Performed?

Generally, a rhinoplasty is performed for several reasons which include a desire to change or improve the appearance of the nose, to improve breathing, and/or to correct an injury or birth deformity. A septoplasty can be done at the same time to open blocked nasal passages due to a deviated septum.

How is a Rhinoplasty Performed?

The procedure can be performed under general anesthesia or intravenous conscious sedation and this should be discussed with your physician during your consultation. Depending on the technique needed to produce the desired end result, incisions will either be made exclusively within the nostril (closed rhinoplasty) or will consist of a combination of intranasal and extranasal incisions (open rhinoplasty).

What Can I Expect After Surgery?

There will be some pain for about 1-4 weeks after the surgery. You will be given pain medicine to relieve this pain. You will most likely go home on the same day. Stitches will be removed after the first week. A splint may need to be worn for 1-2 weeks or more. Numbness, swelling, or bruising of the surgical area and around the eyes should be expected. Post-operative instructions will be given to you prior to the procedure and will be readdressed the day of surgery.
