Willis Knighton Hospice Seeks Volunteers

May 05, 2025

If you have a giving spirit, caring heart and free time on your hands, Willis Knighton Hospice has a place for you as a volunteer. Hospice is an essential component of the healthcare circle of life and volunteers play an indispensable role in providing support, comfort and care to patients and their families at their end-of-life journey.

Volunteers do not perform medical procedures or administer medications but are a comforting and supportive presence. Hospice Director Anthony Martin says among services they provide are active listening, companionship, writing letters, and engaging the patient in listening to music, reading and other hobbies.

Volunteers may also perform light housekeeping and help with errands such as banking, picking up prescriptions and grocery shopping.

“The importance of being a volunteer with hospice is immeasurable,” Martin says.  “Volunteers may be better able to attend to the patient at the end of life than family and close friends because their focus is often divided between the patient and their own issues of grief.”
