The WK Hyperbaric & Wound Care Center has once again been awarded accreditation by the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society, the organization that monitors and maintains a comprehensive set of guidelines and recommended practices for hyperbaric medicine. Located at Willis-Knighton South, it is the only accredited hyperbaric medicine provider in Louisiana.
The accreditation was awarded following an extensive review of policies, processes, safety concerns, documentation, patient assessments, staff qualifications, equipment and environment , to name a few. A team of qualified hyperbaric experts, a physician, a registered nurse and a certified hyperbaric safety advisor conducted the assessment which included a two-day site survey.
“This is a very important recognition for our center because we are the only center in the state with this distinction,” said Steven Kitchings, MD, medical director of the center. “I thank all of the clinic staff who made this accreditation possible.”
Willis-Knighton offers two locations for hyperbaric medicine and wound care. The Willis-Knighton South Hyperbaric & Wound Care Center is located in WK Canterbury Square on the campus of Willis-Knighton South Hospital & the Center for Women’s Health. It features the only multiplace hyperbaric delivery environment in our region, which allows a technician or nurse to be immediately available to provide for patient needs. A second location is available at WK Bossier Health Center. Willis-Knighton’s hyperbaric program is staffed with three full-time physicians who specialize in hyperbaric oxygen therapy and wound care with the support of registered nurses, respiratory therapists and certified hyperbaric technicians
