Minh Tran, MD, pediatric critical care specialist at Willis-Knighton South & the Center for Women’s Health, has been published in “Thrombosis Research,” an international journal designed to rapidly disseminate new information on thrombosis, hemostasis, and vascular biology in order to advance science and clinical care. The article is entitled, “Identification of a VTE-rich population in pediatrics – critically ill children with central venous catheters.” VTEs or venous thromboembolisms are blood clots that start in a vein. The article can be viewed online at science direct.com.
The peer-reviewed journal accepted and published the article in November with details and conclusions following completion of a research project on which Dr. Tran was primary investigator and lead author. Dr. Tran collaborated with former colleagues at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital at Case Western University School of Medicine, where he completed his fellowship, and at The Cleveland Clinic, both in Cleveland, Ohio. Other authors/investigators for the paper included Steven L. Shein, MD., Xinge Ji, MS, and Sanjay P. Ahuja, MD.
The same team is in the process of developing another paper about deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in pediatric surgical patients. The team studied DVTs in pediatric surgical patients and developed a DVT prediction score and application using their data. These findings were presented at the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis in Berlin, Germany, in July.
