The John C. McDonald Regional Transplant Center, part of the Willis-Knighton Health System, is partnering with Donate Life America and the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) to show appreciation for the Office of Motor Vehicles team for their role in organ donation at the Office of Motor Vehicles.

National DMV Appreciation Week is Sept. 25-29. Corey King, transplant administrator for the center, will join LOPA at the Bossier OMV/DMV on Monday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon and the Shreveport OMV/DMV from 1 to 3 p.m. King and LOPA staff will visit with drivers to encourage them to donate and will personally thank the DMV staff for their efforts in donor awareness.

Ninety-eight percent of donor registrations in the United States come through DMV and driver’s license partner transactions. DMV offices and their employees play an invaluable role in increasing the number of registered organ, eye and tissue donors. 

King says DMV Appreciation Week is a way to thank motor vehicle departments across the country for their partnership and commitment to asking the donation question to their customers every day, helping to save and heal lives through organ, eye and tissue donation.

The John C. McDonald Regional Transplant Center is the only transplant center in Louisiana north of Interstate 10. The center performed its first transplant in 1990. In 2017 to date, 72 patients have received life sustaining kidney, pancreas, and liver organs at Willis-Knighton.
