Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)
Overview
This surgery treats the drainage canals around the iris. It helps fluid drain from your eye's front chamber. That relieves the harmful pressure of glaucoma.
Preparation
To begin, your eye is numbed with drops. A lens placed on your eye will help direct the laser light.
Laser treatment
The doctor shines the laser at the drainage canals in your eye. Specific spots are treated around the iris. The laser stimulates the canals to drain fluid better. This lowers pressure in your eye.
End of procedure
After the procedure, your vision may be blurry for a brief time. Before you go home, the doctor will check your eye pressure to make sure it's stable. You'll come back for a followup exam. Follow your doctor's care plan.
