Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (Accordion Procedure)
Overview
This helps you lose weight without surgery. It's done through an endoscope. That's a long, thin tube with a light, a camera and a channel for instruments. This procedure makes the space inside your stomach smaller. You'll eat less and feel full longer.
It can help you lose a lot of weight.
Preparation
To begin, you are given medicine to put you to sleep. You lie on your side. The endoscope is put into your mouth and guided down to your stomach.
Procedure
Working through the endoscope, the doctor makes two marks on the wall of your stomach. These marks are guides. The doctor puts sutures in your stomach wall along these guides. As they are pulled tight, they close off part of your stomach. When the suturing
is done, the inside of your stomach is much smaller. It's shaped like a tube. It will fill up quickly, and food will stay in your stomach longer. This will help you eat less.
End of Procedure
When the procedure is done, you are watched for a short time. Most patients can go home the same day. Your doctor will give you dietary guidelines and lifestyle tips to help with your recovery.
