For more than 40 years Willis-Knighton has offered technologically advanced eye surgery to patients in the region. Opening the first outpatient eye surgery center in the region on the campus of Willis-Knighton Medical Center, it has made a commitment to sophisticated technology and has a record of outstanding experience in eye surgery. Because eye surgery at all Willis-Knighton ambulatory surgery locations and in-hospital surgery departments are part of the health system, patients can rely on the quality standards and Joint Commission accreditation found only in a hospital-affiliated surgery center.
As a technology leader Willis-Knighton and its WK Eye Institute building (formerly Steen-Hall Eye Institute) at the Greenwood Road location have set the standard for leadership in eye surgery, offering many “firsts” in Shreveport/Bossier. Among them are the first foldable silicone intraocular lens implant, no-stitch cataract surgery using only local anesthesia, LASIK surgery and YAG laser procedures. The most recent additions are equally impressive. In 2012 the center introduced laser-assisted cataract surgery to Louisiana using the LenSx® laser and the WK Refractive Surgery Center at the Eye Institute brought the technology of the WaveLight® system for refractive surgery to Shreveport. This is the newest, most advanced eye surgery technology available for LASIK in the city.
