• Medicare covers ECC’s level of care at 100% for the first 20 days. The remaining 80 days allowed in the benefit period are paid less a daily co-insurance rate as long as the care is considered medically necessary. A patient's benefit period renews after a 60-day absence from a Medicare providing facility.
• Should the HMO or insurance coverage include skilled services, a daily rate can be negotiated or possible contractual services considered.
