Trans Carotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR)

This is an advanced way to deliver a stent into a blocked carotid artery. TCAR is an option for patients who are considered high-risk for conventional CEA. The first TCAR in Louisiana was performed in the Hybrid Surgical Suite at Willis-Knighton Heart & Vascular Institute.

This Procedure

  • Delivers neuroprotection into the carotid artery during stent placement.
  • Temporarily reverses blood flow to prevent dangerous bits of plaque from traveling to the brain and causing a stroke.

Benefits

  • Minimally invasive.
  • Clinically-proven option for patients who are at risk with a traditional carotid endarterectomy due to age, medical condition or anatomical issues.
