Connecting With the Community Through Serving is the Focus of 2012 MLK Day Celebration

Project NeighborHealth, a community service of Willis-Knighton Health System, will observe the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, Jan. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the WK Community Health & Education Center, 4700 Hilry Huckaby III Avenue.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Connecting With the Community Through Serving: A Day On, Not A Day Off.” The celebration will feature essays composed by 5th Grade students from area schools on the topic, “I Have a Dream Too”.

Helen Godfrey-Smith, President and CEO of Shreveport Federal Credit Union will be the featured speaker.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award will also be presented to Brother John Dansby, pastor of the Russell Road Church of Christ.

“Connecting With the Community Through Serving: A Day On, Not A Day Off” is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call the WK Community Health & Education Center at (318) 424-7900.
