An important part of the healing process while going through cancer treatment is having the support of others. Support groups can provide valuable support from people who are undergoing a similar situation. Willis-Knighton Cancer Center offers several free support and educational programs.
General Cancer Support Group This group is designed to assist patients and caregivers as they discuss the emotional challenges and other concerns often faced by patients with cancer. Lunch provided. Space limited. You can register online or by calling (318) 212-8225.
Bereavement Support Group – Adult This support group is designed to offer encouragement to those who have lost a loved one. Meetings are held on Thurdays at 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Willis-Knighton Hospice of Louisiana. You can register online or by calling (318) 212-8225.
Bereavement Support Group – Child This group is designed to help children and adolescents struggling with the death of a loved one. Meetings are held on Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. by appointment in the Willis-Knighton Hospice of Louisiana. You can register online or by calling (318) 212-8225.
Cancer Pain and Fatigue Educational Group This group provides cancer patients and their loved ones with the opportunity to discuss their concerns of pain and fatigue with knowledgeable healthcare professionals. Transplant Support Group This workshop provides the pre-transplant kidney and liver patients and their caregivers with information about the Transplant Center, patient responsibilities, and concerns often faced by transplant patients. This education class is mandatory for transplant patients and they must attend one only annually. Failure to attend could result in waitlist status being changed to inactive until the patient attends an educational session. Feeling Better by Eating Right: Education in Nutrition This group is for patients and caregivers. It is designed to help them find resources and information on food and general nutrition that will be of value before, during, and after treatment. Reservations required, includes lunch.
